The Second Exodus: The Most Overlooked End Times Prophecy

The Second Exodus is the most overlooked end times Bible prophecy. A large number of believers have never heard of it, which is why I heavily emphasize reading the entire Bible. To be specific, the books of prophecy that we neglect in reading often include important prophecies; the Second Exodus is one of them. Another overlooked prophecy is the Restoration of Israel, which was covered in the last article.
Understanding the Second Exodus is a key part of understanding the end times. The end times is chaotic, and we should be prepared for things to get worse. However, it is also full of God moving and fulfilling prophecy. This article will discuss the Second Exodus and show why it is a focal point of end times Bible prophecy.

What Is The Second Exodus?
The Second Exodus is when God will gather all 12 tribes of Israel from the four corners of the earth. Before the Restoration of Israel happens, and Jesus rules as king over a restored Israel (this is the Millenial Reign), God said that He would gather the descendants of Israel from all the earth. This event is known as the Second Exodus because of Jeremiah 16:14-15, which says:
“’Therefore behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that it shall no more be said, ‘The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ but, ‘The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.'” (Jeremiah 16:14-15 NKJV)
God tells Jeremiah that He would no longer be known for the First Exodus that he performed in Egypt because He is doing something new; a second exodus is coming. Isaiah 11:11-12 also points to the Second Exodus, as it talks about God recovering the remnant of His people for a second time.
NOTE: If you want a list of verses that talk about the Second Exodus, this website is a good source (many of these verses also overlap with the Restoration of Israel).
Moreover, I believe that this event will be fulfilled during the Great Tribulation. While chaos is happening in the world, and the Antichrist is rising, God will be working to gather His people. This event will happen in stages, with the culmination being when Jesus comes back, establishes His kingdom, and restores Israel.

Stages Of The Second Exodus
Now that the context of the Second Exodus has been established, we can discuss the stages of this event. Each stage is a different progression of the Second Exodus, and it leads us to when God will finally restore Israel.
–
Stage 1: The Dry Bones Rattle (Ezekiel 37)
The first stage of the Second Exodus is the rattling of the dry bones. The whole house of Israel is dead right now, as they are scattered and many Israelites don’t truly know their identity. However, God is about to wake them up; the dry bones will live!
“The hand of the LORD came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So I answered, “O Lord GOD, You know.” Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord .” (Ezekiel 37:1-6 NKJV)
After God breathes life into the dry bones, He will begin the process of restoring them. The whole house of Israel will be brought back, as God will open their graves and put His spirit in them.
”So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone. Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them. Also He said to me, ‘Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then He said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’ Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken it and performed it,‘ says the LORD’” (Ezekiel 37:7-14 NKJV)
So next time you sing “RATTLE!” by Elevation Worship or “Live!” by Tye Tribbett, please know that you are indirectly singing about the Second Exodus and Restoration of Israel (though these songs obviously weren’t written in that context)
Moreover, I believe that we are currently in this stage of the Second Exodus. The dry bones are rattling, as God is working to revive the house of Israel. I also believe that the ministry of the Two Witnesses (Revelation 11) will be the culmination of this stage, but that is just my opinion. I can see their prophecies being instrumental in waking up the dry bones and leading to the next stage – the gathering.
–
Stage 2: The Gathering (Isaiah 11, Isaiah 43)
After the dry bones rattle, the whole house of Israel will be revived. The problem is that they are scattered across the entire world, so God will gather them from the four corners of the earth.
“It shall come to pass in that day That the Lord shall set His hand again the second time To recover the remnant of His people who are left, From Assyria and Egypt, From Pathros and Cush, From Elam and Shinar, From Hamath and the islands of the sea. He will set up a banner for the nations, And will assemble the outcasts of Israel, And gather together the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.” (Isaiah 11:11-12 NKJV)
God even goes into great detail on how He will gather Israel. He will display His power and will be with them. It will unmistakably be a move of God when this happens.
“But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth— Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.'” (Isaiah 43:1-7 NKJV)
Isaiah 43 is a beautiful prophecy of the Second Exodus, and it is full of imagery from the First Exodus; God will do it again! Israel will be gathered from the ends of the earth and brought back to their land. Moreover, God will do the supernatural to make this happen. He will be with them when they pass through the waters, and when they walk through the fire, they will not be burned. In short, God’s power will be on full display when the Second Exodus happens.
And just like the First Exodus, the Second Exodus will be open to Gentiles.
God will be gathering His people, which is the primary reason for this, but Gentiles are welcome to be part of this (similar to how they are welcome to be part of the Restoration of Israel). Salvation has come to all, and God will accept Jew or Gentile; He just wants our hearts to be loyal to Him. Israel is the natural branch, while Gentiles are wild branches grafted in through Jesus (Romans 11:24). So as an aside, the Church didn’t replace Israel, rather they were joined with Israel as heirs to salvation (I will cover Replacement Theology in a future article).

Stage 3: In The Wilderness (Ezekiel 20, Revelation 12)
The final stage of the Second Exodus, which leads directly into the Restoration of Israel, is the period in the wilderness. Just like the First Exodus, there will be a period of Israel being in the wilderness, before inheriting the land. It won’t be 40 years, like the First Exodus, but ~3.5 years.
“’As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face. Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you,’ says the Lord GOD. ‘I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'” (Ezekiel 20:33-38 NKJV)
In the wilderness, God will plead His case with Israel face to face, just like he did in the First Exodus. He will call them back into covenant with Him; He wants them to know Him and keep His commandments. However, there will be rebels who transgress God’s laws. They will be purged out and will not enter the land. This reveals the sad reality that not everyone who is part of the Second Exodus will be part of the Restoration of Israel (similar to how the generation who saw the Exodus didn’t enter the Promised Land).
Moreover, Satan will not sit back and watch this happen. He will try his best to destroy the remnant of Israel. He has tools at his disposal, but they will not work; no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). To be specific, Revelation 12 details Satan’s failed attempt at derailing the Second Exodus.
“Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.” (Revelation 12:1-6)
Concerning the symbols, The woman is Israel, and the 12 stars are the 12 tribes of Israel. Satan is the dragon and Jesus is the male child who will rule all the nations. The woman (Israel) flees into the wilderness and is fed by God for 1260 days (~3.5 years). The next few verses talk about Satan being thrown out of heaven, then continues by saying:
“Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Revelation 12:13-17)
Satan’s persecution against Israel fails, as she is given refuge in the wilderness. Satan tries to send a flood, which Isaiah 43 prophesied, and it fails; the Second Exodus cannot be stopped. Because Satan cannot hurt Israel, and prevent the Second Exodus, he decides to go after the Christians. Some Christians will be part of the Second Exodus, but I believe that the majority of Christians won’t be (I pray that I’m wrong). Those who aren’t part of the Second Exodus will persecuted by Satan; the Antichrist makes war with the saints and overcomes them (Revelation 13:7).
However, there is hope for those who die for the faith, as they will be part of the First Ressurection and reign with Jesus for 1000 years during the Millenial Reign, (Revelation 20:4-6) which is concurrent with the Restoration of Israel.

Conclusion: Be Ready!
I will conclude this article by encouraging you to be ready for this event. Pray about it and ask God to give you understanding. God opened my eyes to this, as I read those passages in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel multiple times, but never understood that they were talking about the Second Exodus. I love how God can open your eyes to something you’ve read in scripture multiple times, but never noticed before.
Moreover, as believers, we should be eagerly waiting for this event. We should be excited at the possibility of being part of it. The end times are not all doom and gloom, as God is working His power. Satan will come against this heavily, as he doesn’t want people to see how God will show His power to restore Israel. I can imagine every news outlet covering this up or putting a negative spin on God’s people gathering in the wilderness. Regardless of what the enemy does, he cannot stop Bible prophecy. God said that there would be a Second Exodus, so that is what I am waiting for. Put your hope in the promises of God, and don’t be troubled about the short season that Satan has to cause chaos; he loses in the end.
Thank you for reading, and always remember to stay vigilant!
